MVSU tabs Morgan as next football coach
Itta Bena, MS (Sports Network) - Mississippi Valley State has named Karl Morgan as its next head football coach.
Morgan takes over for Willie Totten, who stepped down as head coach in late November after eight seasons at the helm. Morgan spent the previous five years as defensive coordinator at the University of North Alabama.
"After an open search with candidates from across the nation, we are pleased to have Karl Morgan as the newest football coach at Mississippi Valley State" said interim director of athletics Donald R. Sims. "We now hope that Morgan can take the reins of the program and guide the Devils into this new decade."
Morgan brings over 21 years of coaching experience to Itta Bena including stints as defensive coordinator at Alcorn State University and Hampton University as well as coach of the defensive line at Nicholls State, Southern University, Purdue University and Arkansas State University.
A former defensive lineman with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1984-86) and the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders (1983), Morgan takes over as the 15th head coach of the Delta Devils.
