Final Score: (5) Boise State 34, UC Davis 16
Boise, ID (Sports Network) - Kellen Moore threw for three touchdown passes, as fifth-ranked Boise State defeated FCS foe UC Davis, 34-16.
Moore finished with 285 yards through the air and one interception on 22-of-31 attempts for the Broncos (5-0), who stretched their home winning streak to 22 games. It's the second longest run in the nation behind only Oklahoma, which has taken 25 in a row in Norman.
"Every game there are different things that come up," said Moore. "Some games we don't run well, some we don't pass well. We just have to take the next step, keep progressing and keep getting better."
Austin Pettis led all Broncos receivers with 129 yards and two scores on 10 catches, while Titus Young had 83 yards and score on six receptions.
Greg Denham threw for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns passes to Sean Creadick on 24-of-36 efficiency for the Aggies (1-3).
"We just wanted to come in and play as hard as we could," said UC Davis coach Bob Biggs. "[We didn't have to] be world beaters. Everybody said we didn't have a chance, but we didn't talk about that and use that as a motivation. We just said, let's go in, 56 guys, and play as hard as we can and see how it works out. That's what they did."
Boise State marched down the field on its first drive of the game, but Doug Martin was denied on 4th-and-goal from the one.
After a series of punts, the Broncos settled for kicks of 22 and 34 yards, respectively, from Kyle Brotzman in the second quarter.
The Aggies went three-and-out on the next drive, and Boise State got the ball back at its own 45-yard-line. Moore completed all four pass attempts, three to Pettis, including a six-yard TD that came with 52 seconds remaining before the break.
Moore was intercepted by Kenneth Brown on the second play of the third quarter and Brown returned the ball to the BSU 36. Three plays later, Sean Kelley booted a 48-yard field goal to put the visitors on the board.
The Broncos signal-caller responded on the next offensive sequence with a 42- yard TD pass to Young, but a 21-yard passing play between Denham and Creadick capped a five-play drive and trimmed UC Davis' deficit to 20-10.
Pettis' two-yard touchdown grab extended Boise State's advantage to 17 with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter.
UC Davis refused to go away and Denham found Creadick in the back of the end zone for a four-yard score early in the final frame. The Aggies trailed 27-16 after Kelley botched the extra point.
Martin's four-yard scoring run inside the last minute cemented the victory.
Boise State's Jeremy Avery gained 70 yards on 15 carries...The Broncos have won all four meetings with the Aggies.
