Reid bolts VMI for Miami Dolphins

Lexington, VA (Sports Network) - Jim Reid left his job as VMI football coach Wednesday to join the staff of the Miami Dolphins,

Reid will coach the Dolphins linebackers under new defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni in South Beach.

Reid, 57, has been VMI's head coach for the past two seasons, compiling records of 2-9 in 2006 and 1-10 in 2007.

"Jim Reid has done a splendid job at VMI in just two years," said VMI athletic director Donny White. "He has energized the program and recruited and retained quality athletes. We are disappointed that Coach Reid is leaving us for the Miami Dolphins. However, we will prosper from his good and hard work and we will move forward quickly to name a successor."

Reid was also the head coach at the University of Richmond from 1995 to 2003, and guided the Spiders to 48 wins over his nine years as head coach, good for third on the school's all-time win list.

He left Richmond following the 2003 season to serve as defensive line coach for Syracuse University, where he worked under Pasqualoni.
