Wells takes over program at Savannah State

Savannah, GA (Sports Network) - Savannah State has named Robert Wells its new head football coach.

Wells takes over for Theo Lemon, who was fired on November 30. While at SSU, Lemon compiled a record of 3-18 in two seasons: 2-9 in 2006 and 1-9 in 2007.

Wells was most recently the defensive coordinator and football marketing director at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Benedict ranked third in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in rushing defense, sacks, and red zone defense.

From 2002-05, Wells served as the defensive coordinator at South Carolina State. He was the general manager for the Augusta Spartans Arena Football Team in 2006.
