Stowers relieved of duties at URI

Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - The University of Rhode Island relieved head football coach Tim Stowers of his duties on Monday.

Stowers, the Rams' head coach since 2000, compiled a 33-57 record while at the helm, including a 3-8 mark this past season. He also was the head coach at Georgia Southern from 1990-95, where he helped the Eagles to a National Championship in 1990.

"We would like to thank coach Stowers and his staff for all of their hard work and efforts over the past eight seasons, serving the university and community with class and professionalism," said URI athletics director Thorr Bjorn.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
