Ballard paces Horned Frogs past UCD
Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Jeff Ballard threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 26 yards and a score to lead the 23rd- ranked TCU Horned Frogs past the UC Davis Aggies, 46-13, at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Aaron Brown ran 13 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns for the Horned Frogs (2-0), who have won 12 in a row for the nation's longest current winning-streak.
Jon Grant completed 13-of-25 passes for 211 yards with two interceptions for the Aggies (1-1), who played a ranked opponent for the first time in school history.
UC Davis took an early lead on Emmanuel Benjamin's 28-yard field goal after forcing TCU to punt on its first possession, but the Horned Frogs answered with 23 straight points.
On its next possession, TCU marched 80-yards on 11-plays, scoring on a 10-yard run by Ballard that put the Horned Frogs up 7-3.
Peter LoCoco kicked a 49-yard field goal to start the second quarter before Ballard hooked up with Shae Reagan on an 18-yard strike just over eight minutes left to play before halftime.
Marvin White then picked off a pass from Grant to set up Brown's four-yard touchdown scamper with just under six minutes to play.
The ensuing extra point was blocked and UC Davis scored on its next possession, as Grant's short touchdown run capped a nine-play, 80-yard drive that made it 23-10 at the break.
Brown scored again from seven yards out in the third quarter and after Benjamin's second field goal of the game, Ballard hooked up with Quentil Harmon for a 10-yard score that gave TCU a 37-13 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Chris Manfredini kicked a 47-yard field goal and Chris Smith crossed the goal line from 14-yards out to cap the scoring.
TCU began a stretch of three consecutive games at home...The Horned Frogs have won five straight home openers.
