Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Robert Turbin rushed into the end zone in both overtime periods to push Utah State passed Idaho, 49-42 in Western Athletic Conference action at the Kibbie Dome.
Turbin scored three touchdowns and rushed for 208 yards on 24 carries to lead Utah State (5-5, 3-2 WAC) to its third-straight win. Adam Kennedy completed 13-of-18 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Stanley Morrison caught three of Kennedy's passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Michael Smith rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns, as Utah State churned out 310 yards on the ground. Brady McKade led the Aggies' defense with 16 tackles and Bobby Wagner tallied 11 tackles and recorded an interception.
Quarterback Brian Reader led Idaho (2-9, 1-6), as he completed 27-of-39 passes for 275 yards and a touchdown. Kama Bailey pushed the Vandals' rushing attack with 110 yards on 23 carries and Mike Scott had a game-high six catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. Korey Toomer was a goal-line weapon as he scored three rushing touchdowns. TreShawn Robinson anchored Idaho's defense with 20 tackles and a forced fumble.
Utah State opened up scoring less than five minutes after kickoff as Smith punched it in from a yard out.
The Vandals answered with 2:37 left in the opening quarter when Reader completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Scott to make it 7-7.
The Aggies then went on a 14-0 run to start the second period. The first touchdown came on a three-yard passing play as Kennedy found Travis Van Leeuwen for a score. Utah State struck again at the 10:13 mark when Turbin broke away from the Vandals' defenders for an 80-yard touchdown run.
Idaho's Trey Farquhar connected on a 23-yard field goal attempt with 2:23 remaining in the first half that made Utah State's lead 21-10 at the break.
Farquhar made another 23-yard field goal just under five minutes into the third quarter that put Idaho down by eight at 21-13.
Quin Ashley intercepted Kennedy on Utah State's next possession and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown. Reader completed a pass to Taylor Elmo on the two-point conversion try to make it 21-21.
Kennedy quickly made up for his mistake and completed a 63-yard touchdown pass to Morrison with just under seven minutes remaining in the third frame to put Utah State up a touchdown. Idaho tied it up with 3:38 to go in the third quarter as Toomer ran a yard into the end zone.
Smith put the Aggies ahead again just under two minutes into the final quarter as he rushed seven yards for a score to make it 35-28.
Idaho responded with a seven-play 76-yard drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown run by Toomer that tied it up with 9:14 left to play.
Neither offense could find the end zone before the end of regulation and the game went into overtime deadlocked at 35-35.
Both teams scored in the first overtime period. Idaho struck first with a 2- yard run by Toomer to go up a touchdown. Utah State answered with a one-yard touchdown run by Turbin to tie it up at 42-42.
Turbin scored again in the second overtime on a two-yard touchdown run to go up 49-42. Idaho pushed its way inside Utah State's 10-yard line but Reader threw an interception on fourth and goal to end the game.
