(Saturday, October 29th) Final Score: Wyoming 30, San Diego State 27 San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Brett Smith threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wyoming Cowboys to a 30-27 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs in Mountain West Conference action at Qualcomm Stadium. Smith also added two rushing touchdowns for Wyoming (5-2, 2-0 MWC), while Chris McNeill finished with 111 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions. Ronnie Hillman led the charge for SDSU (4-3, 1-2), as the tailback rumbled for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Lindley finished with 247 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. The Aztecs jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter when Lindley hit Gavin Escobar for a 44-yard scoring strike. Wyoming evened the score later in the frame when Smith rumbled into the end zone for a two-yard touchdown. San Diego State regained the lead when Lindley hit Ronnie Hillman with a 71- yard touchdown pass, but the extra point was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 13-7. In the final seconds of the first quarter the Cowboys went back on top, 14-13, after Smith hit Chris with a 26-yard scoring strike. The Cowboys took over in the second stanza beginning with a 20-yard touchdown run by Smith. The extra point was no good, so the lead for Wyoming stayed at seven points. Wyoming extended its lead to 27-13 when Smith and McNeill hooked up again, this time the score went for 11 yards. The Cowboys went into the break with a 30-13 advantage after Daniel Sullivan drilled a 33-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. The Aztecs came out of the locker room a different team and all the momentum shifted in their direction when Hillman broke free for an amazing 99-yard touchdown run. Hillman added a three-yard touchdown scampered later in the quarter, cutting San Diego State's deficit to 30-27. However, the scoring came to a complete stop in the final frame and because of that the Cowboys were able to hold on for the three-point win. 10/30 02:36:29 ET |
