NCAA Game Summary - Wyoming at Air Force

Final Score: Wyoming 25, Air Force 17

United States Air Force Academy, CO (Sports Network) - Brett Smith rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as Wyoming topped Air Force 25-17 in Mountain West Conference play at Falcon Stadium.

Smith threw for 139 yards and rushed for 75 as Wyoming (6-3, 3-1 Mountain West) outlasted its conference rival. Alvester Alexander led the Cowboys with 83 rushing yards on 15 carries and Chris McNeill contributed 67 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine catches.

A potent rushing attack for Air Force (5-5, 1-4) was charged by quarterback Connor Dietz, who rushed for 85 yards on 18 attempts. Asher Clark added 84 yards, as the Falcons churned out 312 rushing yards. Mike DeWitt scored two touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards on 15 carries. Brady Amack led Air Force's defensive unit with 13 tackles and a forced fumble.

Wyoming struck first as Smith punched it in from a yard out with 8:32 left in the opening quarter. Kicker Daniel Sullivan's extra point attempt was unsuccessful, giving the Cowboys a 6-0 lead.

DeWitt scored the first points for Air Force when he ran nine yards for a touchdown with 1:13 left in the first quarter to give the Falcons a 7-6 lead.

The only score of the second quarter came courtesy of a six-yard touchdown pass from Smith to McNeil to give the Cowboys the advantage once again. Wyoming attempted a two-point conversion but Air Force's defense stopped Alexander short of the end zone to keep the visitor's advantage at 12-7.

Air Force cut into the lead just over five minutes into the second half with a 35-yard field goal by Parker Herrington. The Falcons took a 17-12 lead with 3:35 left in the third quarter when DeWitt ran it in from a yard out.

Wyoming took back the lead in the final frame when Smith rushed two yards for a touchdown to conclude a 16-play, 79-yard drive. The Cowboys were unsuccessful again on a two-point conversion after Smith was intercepted on the attempt. The stop by Air Force left Wyoming with a 18-17 lead.

Air Force had the ball inside Wyoming's territory in the final minutes but the threat ended when Brandon Hirneise fumbled after a reception which led to a 48-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Marqueston Huff.

The return ended the Air Force threat, leaving the final score at 25-17.

The Falcons only attempted five passes in the game, one of which was intercepted. Air Force turned the ball over four times in the loss.
