Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Ryan Aplin threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns while running for another sore to lead the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 45-19 victory over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Floyd Stadium.
Aplin completed 25-of-37 under center to pace Arkansas State (9-2, 7-0 SBC), while Jermaine Robertson ran for 85 yards and a touchdown to lead a Red Wolves ground-attack that amassed 203 yards. Dwayne Frampton hauled in 10 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown as well.
Jeff Murphy threw for 219 yards and one touchdown to lead Middle Tennessee (2-8, 1-5) in the loss. The Blue Raiders managed just 299 yards of total offense during the meeting.
The Red Wolves jumped out to an 8-0 lead following a 26-yard scoring strike from Aplin to Dwayne Frampton and a successful two-point conversion via a pass from Neely Sullivent to Nathan Herrold less than a minute into the contest.
The Blue Raiders got on the board at the 5:42 mark of the quarter with a safety.
The Red Wolves closed out the frame with a 15-2 advantage after a 21-yard Aplin toss to Anthony Kincy.
Frankie Jackson gave the Red Wolves a 22-2 lead midway through the second period with an eight-yard run, while a 24-yard Brian Davis field goal less than two minutes later extended the ASU lead further to 25-2.
A one-yard Benjamin Cunningham scoring plunge pulled Middle Tennessee to within 25-9 late in second quarter, and a 26-yard Alan Gendreau field goal minutes later made it 25-12.
Jeff Murphy found Sancho McDonald with just over a minute remaining in the half with a 12-yard completion to send things into the break 25-19.
Jackson found the end zone again early in the third quarter after a two-yard run.
A 30-yard Jermaine Robertson scamper late in the stanza pushed the Red Wolves ahead, 39-19.
Aplin hit pay dirt midway through the final period of play following a two- yard rush to put the finishing touches on the 45-19 win.
