Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Chris Masson threw for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a 31-17 victory over the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference affair at Cajun Field.
Masson completed 21-of-29 under center for the Cajuns (5-1, 3-0 SBC). . Javone Lawson benefited the most from Masson's performance, grabbing eight passes for 131 yards and a score. Alonzo Harris added 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well for Louisiana.
Corey Robinson threw for 322 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to lead Troy (2-3, 1-1) in a losing effort. Eric Thomas hauled in 10 receptions for 96 yards and a score as well for the Trojans.
Chris Masson found Larry Pettis with a one-yard scoring toss to cap a 10-play, 80-yard opening drive for the Cajuns.
The Trojans got on the board late in the stanza with a 36-yard Michael Taylor field goal.
The second quarter was all Louisiana, as Masson hit Lawson for a 26-yard score midway through the frame, followed by a 24-yard Brett Baer field goal with just over a minute remaining. A Melvin White interception return for 89 yards with just moments remaining in the second quarter sent the Cajuns into the locker room with a 24-3 advantage.
Robinson got the Trojans to within 24-10 with a five-yard scoring toss to Jaquon Robinson early in the third quarter, but the Cajuns responded late in the period with a two-yard Harris run to pull ahead 31-10.
Robinson added a 27-yard strike to Thomas early in the final quarter of action, which represented the final scoring play of the contest.
