Final Score: Toledo 54, Eastern Michigan 16
Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens combined for four touchdown passes for Toledo, as the quarterback duo led the Rockets to an impressive 54-16 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in Mid-American Conference play at the Glass Bowl.
Dantin and Owens usually share time under center for Toledo (3-3, 2-0 MAC), and today's effort by both quarterbacks was outstanding. Dantin completed 14-of-16 passes for 156 yards and two scores, while Owens missed only one of his 14 pass attempts, finishing the game with 146 yards and two touchdowns as well. Regardless of who was under center Eric Page seemed to be the main target, as the wide out hauled in 11 receptions for 109 yards and one touchdown.
Alex Gillett did not have similar success for EMU (3-3, 1-1), as the signal caller completed only 12-of-23 throws for 122 yards. Gillett did toss a touchdown, but he was also intercepted twice.
The Rockets dominated the first half of action against the Eagles and the scoring began with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Dantin to Morgan Williams midway through the opening quarter.
The Rockets pushed their lead to 14-0 early in the second frame as Owens connected with Bernard Reedy for a 55-yard score.
Less than two minutes later the Eagles punted the ball to Toledo's elusive and electrifying Page, and he promptly returned the kick 85 yards for a touchdown.
The Eagles finally found a groove late in the opening half, as the team leaped onto the scoreboard with a 48-yard kick by Kody Fulkerson.
Eastern Michigan added to its point total when Gillett hit Kinsman Thomas for a 22-yard touchdown pass. However, the extra point was blocked and returned by Toledo's Desmond Marrow for two points, giving the Rockets a 23-9 edge at the break.
Toledo continue to dominate the Eagles in the second half, as the team added 17 straight third quarter points. The second half scoring began with a 19-yard field goal by Ryan Casano.
That was followed by touchdown passes from Owens and Dantin. Owens connected with Kenny Stafford for a two-yard score, while Dantin hit Page for a 24-yard touchdown.
The Rockets did not take their foot off the pedal in the final frame, as they pushed their lead to 47-9 with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Williams.
Eastern Michigan was finally able to break Toledo's scoring run thanks to a three-yard touchdown scamper by Dominique White.
However, the Rockets responded on their next possession, as David Pasquale found the end zone on a three-yard run.
Toledo racked up 542 total yards of production, 26 first downs and was a flawless 5-for-5 in the redzone.
