Athens, OH (Sports Network) - Jahwan Edwards rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown while leading the Ball State Cardinals to a 23-20 victory over the Ohio Bobcats in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Peden Stadium.
Keith Wenning also added a rushing touchdown for Ball State (4-3, 2-1 MAC), and finished with 179 yards through the air on 20-of-36 passing.
As for the Bobcats (4-3, 1-2), they were led by Tyler Tettleton, who threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns, but was also intercepted twice. LaVon Brazill hauled in two touchdown passes in the loss and finished with 157 yards on eight receptions.
After a scoreless first quarter the Cardinals broke the ice early in the second stanza with a 38-yard field goal by Steven Schott.
Ohio responded on its next drive, as Phil Bates connected with Brazill for a 37-yard scoring strike.
The Cardinals answered back with 10 points in the final minute of the opening half. The first score was a 28-yard rushing touchdown by Edwards which capped off a nine-play, 81-yard drive. That was followed by a 25-yard boot by Schott as time expired in the quarter.
The Bobcats opened the second half with an eight-play drive that was capped off by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Tettleton to Donte Harden. The extra point was blocked though, leaving the score knotted at 13 apiece.
The back and forth continued, as the Cardinals went back ahead thanks to a three-yard touchdown scamper by Wenning.
Less than a minute later the Bobcats evened the score at 20 apiece with a big play, as Tettleton and Brazill hooked up on a 74-yard scoring play.
Schott's foot gave the Cardinals the lead once again, as the kicker connected on 27-yard boot early in the final stanza.
That lead would hold, as Ball State's defense shut down Ohio the rest of the way.
