Final Score: Ohio University 44, New Mexico State 24
Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Tyler Tettleton threw two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Ohio University Bobcats over the New Mexico State Aggies, 44-24, in the first-ever meeting between the non-conference foes.
Tettleton completed 16-of-28 passes for 153 yards for Ohio University (1-0).
Andrew Manley threw for 362 yards and a pair of scores in the lopsided loss for New Mexico State (0-1).
Ohio University scored the game's first points when Beau Blankenship found paydirt on a one-yard run with just over five minutes left in the first quarter.
New Mexico State needed little time to knot the score at 7-7, as the Aggies got a 42-yard touchdown pass from Manley to Taveon Rogers on the ensuing possession.
The second quarter was dominated by the Bobcats both offensively and defensively. After they registered a safety, they managed to stretch their lead to 23-7 with a pair of touchdowns. Tettleton plunged into the end zone from a yard out and then threw a seven-yard scoring strike to Riley Dunlop.
Just over one minute into the third quarter, Tettleton capped a three-play, 68- yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Donte Foster that extended the lead to 30-7.
New Mexico State did manage a field goal, but the Bobcats answered back with two more touchdowns in that third quarter. One came on a one-yard run by Tettleton, and the other was a 65-yard punt return by Travis Carrie.
New Mexico State trailed 44-10 at that point, and while the Aggies did get a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Rogers and a 54-yard scoring strike from Manley to Todd Lee, those plays did nothing to alter the outcome.
Ohio University finished with 241 rushing yards, while New Mexico State managed a mere six net yards on the ground.
