Athens, OH (Sports Network) - Quarterback Tyler Tettleton threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns as he led the Ohio University Bobcats to a 17-10 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in Mid-American Conference opener for both programs at Peden Stadium.
Tettleton connected on 28-of-42 passes for the Bobcats (4-1, 1-0 MAC), while LaVon Brazill registered 102 yards and a score on eight catches for the hosts.
The Golden Flashes (1-4) were paced by Spencer Keith who connected on 15-of-35 passes for a mere 117 yards, the team as a whole generating just 217 yards of total offense.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Ohio finally broke through with a 43-yard field goal by Matt Weller.
KSU responded with just over four minutes remaining in the first half, thanks to a one-yard touchdown run by Keith.
On their next possession, the Bobcats moved the ball 58 yards on 10 plays, using just 2:15 on the clock as Tettleton connected with Brazill on a four- yard touchdown strike to make the score 10-7 at the break.
Tettleton's seven-yard TD pass to Ryan Boykin at the 2:15 mark of the third quarter extended the Ohio lead to 17-7.
Kent State's only other scoring effort came on a 31-yard field goal conversion by Freddy Cortez with just under six minutes to play in the fourth stanza.
Ohio, which is off to a 3-0 start at home for the first time since 2005, is off to its best start overall since 1997.
Kent State came into the weekend ranked 119th in the nation in total offense (189 ypg) and was 116th in scoring (13.0 ppg).
