Final Score: Utah State 63, Wyoming 19
Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Utah State fell behind real early, but made up for lost time, as quarterback Chuckie Keeton threw five TD passes in routing the visiting Wyoming Cowboys in Logan, 63-19 at Romney Stadium.
Utah State (2-3) rolled up 548 yards of total offense, including 318 on the ground, while holding Wyoming (3-2) to a mere 266 yards.
Keeton went 15-of-20 passing for 213 yards and the five scores. Tailbacks Robert Turbin and Michael Smith scored two TDs apiece in the win. Turbin finished the game with 111 yards rushing, scoring once on the ground and once through the air. Smith added 51 yards rushing, two ground scores and one receiving score.
Wyoming's Brett Smith was 28-of-46, for 265 yards and one INT, as the Cowboys struggled to keep pace with Aggies.
It looked good for the visiting Cowboys early on, as two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game, gave Wyoming a double-digit lead.
The opening score came on a two-yard TD run by Smith, capping off a seven- play, 77-yard drive to begin the game. The Cowboys scored just six seconds later, as the ensuing kickoff was fumbled and recovered by James Caraway. However, Wyoming missed on a two-point conversion on the first score and missed an extra point on the second score, resulting in a 12-0 lead.
It didn't take long for the hometown Aggies to get back in the game, as they took a 14-12 lead with two touchdowns in the next five and half minutes, a one-yard run by Robert Turbin, followed by a 53-yard TD pass from Keeton to Michael Smith.
The Aggies distanced themselves in the second quarter, finding the end zone four more times to Wyoming's once. Three of Utah State's second-quarter scores were TD passes from Keeton, who found Turbin from 19 yards out, D.J. Tialavea from 18 yards away and Tarren Lloyd from six yards out. Stanley Morrison added an eight-yard touchdown run for USU.
A two-yard TD run by Brandon Miller represented the only score for Wyoming in the quarter, as Utah State took an insurmountable 42-19 lead into halftime.
Things didn't get any better for the Cowboys after the break, as Utah State continued to pour it on with a pair of third-quarter touchdown runs by Smith, one from 14 yards out and the other a one-yard run, and a fourth-quarter, four-yard TD run by Robert Marshall with just under three minutes to play.
