NCAA Game Summary - Rutgers at Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - San San Te converted a 47-yard field goal in the second overtime as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated the Syracuse Orange, 19-16, in a Big East matchup at the Carrier Dome.

Chas Dodd threw for 166 yards with an interception while under center in the win for Rutgers (3-1, 1-0 Big East), while Gary Nova also saw time as signal- caller and completed 14-of-24 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Mohamed Sanu caught seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown for the Scarlet Knights, who have won two straight.

Ryan Nassib completed just 15-of-32 passes in the loss for Syracuse (3-2, 0-1), throwing for 169 yards and three costly interceptions without benefit of a single TD. Antwon Bailey led the Orange ground game with 124 yards and a score on 23 carries.

A 66-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Ri'Shard Anderson early in the opening stanza gave Syracuse a 7-0 advantage.

The Scarlet Knights pulled to within 7-3 with a 27-yard field goal by Te midway through the second quarter.

The Orange took a 13-3 lead early in the third period following a three-yard scoring run by Bailey, but a failed PAT left the hosts with a 13-3 advantage with 11:12 remaining in the third quarter.

Te got Rutgers on the board again early in the final period of play with a 33- yard field goal. With just over two minutes remaining, the Knights knotted things up at 13 apiece following a three-yard strike from Nova to Sanu, sending the contest into overtime.

In the first extra stanza, Ross Krautman connected on a 19-yard field goal for the Orange, while Te converted from 27 yards out for force a second overtime.

Te's 47-yard connection gave the visitors a 19-16 advantage and Rutgers preserved the victory by recovering a Bailey fumble on the next Syracuse series.

Rutgers ran a total of 95 plays, resulting in just 302 yards on the afternoon, the team converting a mere 7-of-21 on third down.
