Final Score: Louisville 27, Syracuse 10
Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Teddy Bridgewater threw for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Louisville Cardinals to a 27-10 victory over the Syracuse Orange in a Big East tussle at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Victor Anderson ran for 93 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries in the win for Louisville (4-4, 2-1 Big East), which has won two straight. Michaelee Harris caught four passes for 96 yards as well for the Cardinals.
Ryan Nassib completed 22-of-36 pass attempts for 162 yards and a touchdown to lead the way for Syracuse (5-3, 1-2), which also got 70 yards on the ground from Antwon Bailey. Nassib was sacked four times which brought the team's overall rushing total down to just 84 yards.
The first quarter was all Louisville, as the Cardinals put up 14 unanswered points, beginning with a 42-yard TD toss from Bridgewater to DeVante Parker. Bridgewater struck again late in the frame, this time finding Josh Chichester with a two-yard strike.
An otherwise quiet second stanza was capped with a 34-yard field goal by Orange kicker Ross Krautman to pull Syracuse within 14-3.
Defense took over during the third frame, as neither squad managed to put points on the board.
Early in the fourth quarter, however, the Cardinals earned a 17-3 lead with a 44-yard field goal by Chris Philpott and extended the advantage to 24-3 just minutes later after a 61-yard Anderson TD run.
Philpott added a 32-yard field goal with just under three minutes remaining in the contest, while a 20-yard TD pass from Nassib to Jarrod West with just over a minute remaining represented the final score of the afternoon.
Louisville cornerback Anthony Conner, who broke his neck a week ago against Rutgers, visited his teammates in the locker room prior to the game, clearly providing a boost as the Cardinals won consecutive conference matchups for the first time since 2006.
