Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Ray Graham ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the Pittsburgh Panthers bested the Buffalo Bulls, 35-16, in a non-conference game at Heinz Field.
Tino Sunseri was 16-of-28 through the air for 179 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (1-0), who were playing their first game under new head coach Todd Graham. Mike Shanahan caught five balls for 85 yards and a score.
Branden Oliver ran for a career-high 114 yards for the Bulls (0-1) and scored a touchdown. Chazz Anderson was 32-of-49 through the air for 276 yards and ran for a score. Alex Neutz caught 10 balls for 108 yards, but Buffalo suffered its eighth straight loss.
The Panthers new up-tempo offense paid dividends early when Zach Brown scored on a six-yard run with 9:10 left in the opening period.
The Bulls put their first points on the board when Peter Fardon kicked a 40- yard field goal with 4:33 left in the first half.
Pitt extended its lead to 14-3 in the third quarter when Graham scored from three yards out with 10:01 remaining.
The Bulls moved within a touchdown on Anderson's two-yard run with 4:22 left in the quarter which made it a 14-10 game.
Graham scored his second touchdown of the night on a five-yard run to give Pitt a 21-10 lead with 1:53 left in the third quarter.
Oliver's one-yard run with 13:27 left in the game cut the Pitt lead to 21-16.
The Panthers extended the margin to two scores when Sunseri hit Shanahan with a 17-yard scoring pass with 11:51 left in the game. Graham added his third touchdown on a one-yard run with 1:49 left.
Pitt averaged 6.2 yards on 66 offensive plays.
