Durham, NC (Sports Network) - E.J.Manuel threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Florida State Seminoles bested the Duke Blue Devils 41-16 in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Manuel was 9-of-14 through the air for 239 yards and ran for 62 additional yards on 11 carries as the Seminoles (3-3, 1-2 ACC) ended a three-game losing streak. DeVonta Freeman ran for 109 yards on 19 carries and scored a touchdown, while Rodney Smith caught two balls for 61 yards and a score.
Sean Renfree was 26-of-43 through the air for Duke, for 226 yards and a touchdown (3-3, 1-1) but the Blue Devils lost for the first time in four games. Conner Vernon caught six passes for 88 yards, while Cooper Helfet hauled in three balls for 50 yards and a score.
The Seminoles got on the board on a 27-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins four minutes into the first quarter.
The Blue Devils answered back when Will Snyderwine hit from 38 yards out at the 8:24 mark to tie the game at 3-3.
Florida State took over from there. Manuel took it into the end zone himself from a yard out, then found Smith on a 50-yard touchdown connection to give the Seminoles a 17-3 lead with 3:01 left in the first quarter.
Freeman's 10-yard touchdown run extended the Seminoles' lead to 24-3 with 13:48 left in the first half.
Hopkins added a 48-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to extend the Florida State lead to 27-3.
Manuel's threw a three-yard pass to Nick O'Leary, put the Seminoles up 34-3 with 8:26 left in the third quarter.
Juwan Thompson scored for Duke from a yard out 37 seconds into the fourth quarter before Renfree hit Helfet with a five-yard touchdown pass with 12:38 left in the game.
Manuel ran in from six yards out with 9:49 left to finish the scoring.
Florida State collected 481 yards in total offense. The Blue Devils collected just 63 net rushing yards and were just 5-of-17 on third-down conversions.
