Final Score: Boston College 14, NC State 10
Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - The nation's leading tackler Luke Kuechly had 18 tackles, including nine in the final 13 minutes, helping Boston College fend off the NC State Wolfpack 14-10 in an ACC tussle at Alumni Stadium.
The Eagles (3-7, 2-5 ACC) rebounded from last week's ugly home loss to Florida State with a strong defensive effort, overcoming minus-2 yards of total offense in the second half.
Because two of their victories this year came against FCS schools, the Wolfpack (5-5, 2-4) need to win both of their remaining games against No. 9 Clemson and Maryland to become bowl eligible. Mike Glennon completed 28-of-40 passes for 220 yards but could not punch it into the end zone on the Pack's final drive.
Boston College found the end zone on the game's opening drive, as backup quarterback Josh Bordner scored on a three-yard run to give the Eagles an early 7-0 advantage.
NC State answered with a 14-play, 61-yard drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock. However, the drive eventually stalled and the Wolfpack had to settle for three points on Niklas Sade's 32-yard field goal.
Neither team would score again until the final two minutes of the first half, when Rettig found Colin Larmond for a 17-yard scoring strike to send the Eagles into the locker room with a 14-3 lead.
NC State cut its deficit to 14-10 midway through the third quarter, as James Washington found the end zone on a three-yard run. However, that's as close as the Wolfpack would get.
Kuechly, who led the nation with 183 tackles a year ago, entered the weekend with 150 stops before adding another 14 to that total today.
