NCAA Game Summary - Rutgers vs. Army

(Saturday, November 12th)

Final Score: Rutgers 27, Army 12

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Chas Dodd threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to a 27-12 victory over the Army Black Knights in non-conference action at Yankee Stadium.

Dodd completed 17-of-27 passes in the win for Rutgers (7-3), which also got 64 and 63-yard efforts on the ground from Jeremy Deering and Jawan Jamison. Mohamed Sanu led the Scarlet Knights receiving corps, hauling in 13 passes for 129 yards.

Larry Dixon ran for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead the way for Army (3-7), which also got 72 yards on 30 carries from Angel Santiago. Santiago struggled taking the snaps for the Black Knights however, completing just 6-of-15 for 77 yards.

Alex Carlton hit field goals of 18 and 19 yards to give the Black Knights a 6-0 advantage in what was an otherwise quiet opening period of play.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board late in the second period, as Dodd completed a three-yard toss to Michael Burton. An extra point attempt from San San Te, however, missed, and the contest was knotted at 6-6 at halftime.

Dodd and Brandon Coleman hooked up for a 38-yard score early in the third quarter to give Rutgers a 13-6 lead.

Early in the final period of play, Dixon found the end zone after a two yard plunge to pull Army within 13-12. The extra point attempt from Carlton, however, was no good.

The Scarlet Knights responded midway through the frame with a 32-yard touchdown return by Jordan Thomas of a blocked punt to take a 20-12 lead.

With just over two minutes remaining in the contest, Jawan Jamison broke a 56- yard touchdown run to seal the victory.

Sanu's last reception of the day, his 93rd of the season, broke the Big East single-season record, previously held by Larry Fitzgerald.
