Herrington's 39-yard field goal less than two minutes later even the score at 14 points apiece.
The Falcons took their first lead of the game late in the third frame when Jefferson scored on a one-yard run.
Herrington added another 39-yard field goal early in the final frame and that would be all the scoring Air Force would need, as the Falcons went on to win by a 10-point margin.
