NCAA Game Summary - Arizona at Arizona State

(Saturday, November 19th)

Final Score: Arizona 31, Arizona State 27

Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Nick Foles threw for 370 yards and two touchdowns, but it was Bryson Beirne who saved the day for the Arizona Wildcats as they registered a thrilling 31-27 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils in Pac-12 Conference play at Sun Devil Stadium.

Foles connected on 35-of-51 passes on the night for the Wildcats (3-8, 2-7 Pac-12), but Beirne needed to complete just a single pass to grab all the glory as he hooked up with Juron Criner for a 23-yard TD pass with 5:18 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the visitors the win, snapping a three-game slide in the process.

The Sun Devils (6-5, 4-4) were paced by Brock Osweiler who converted 36-of-65 passes for a whopping 487 yards, but he had just one touchdown and a pair of interceptions as ASU bowed for the third straight outing.

Arizona jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a one-yard TD run by Keola Antolin and an 11-yard TD pass from Foles to Ka'Deem Carey.

However, ASU came storming back with a pair of touchdowns of its own, thanks to an 11-yard TD strike from Osweiler to Gerell Robinson and a 22-yard scoring run by Cameron Marshall. Robinson finished the night with 11 catches for 199 yards, both of which were game highs.

Before the first half could end the Wildcats managed to pull ahead once again, this time on a 43-yard field goal by John Bonano, making the score 17-14 at the break.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of ASU's Alex Garoutte who knocked through a 22-yard field goal. At the 12:33 mark of the fourth, Garoutte struck again with a 27-yard effort to give the lead back to Arizona State at 27-17.

But from there the visitors dominated as Foles combined with Gino Crump on a 33-yard TD pass to close the gap to three points with 10:25 left to play and setting up the game-winning toss by Beirne about five minutes later.

Arizona State, which entered the week ranked fifth in the conference and 32nd nationally with 438.6 ypg of total offense, rolled up 548 yards and still came away with the loss.
