Gainesville, FL (Sports Network) - Devonta Freeman scored two touchdowns and the Florida State Seminoles took advantage of four Florida turnovers to post a 21-7 win over the Gators in a traditional non-conference matchup at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Freeman ran for 44 yards on 15 carries for the Seminoles (8-4). Quarterback E.J. Manual was just 6-of-13 through the air for only 65 yards, as FSU managed a meager 95 yards of total offense.
John Brantley was 9-of-15 through the air for the Gators (6-6) for 104 yards but was intercepted three times. All three interceptions led directly to Florida State touchdowns. A.C. Leonard caught three passes for 65 yards while Chris Rainey ran for 42 yards on 15 carries. Florida's defense stifled the Seminoles all game long, recording a season-high 13 TFLs for a loss of 76 yards. The 95 total yards allowed by the Florida defense marked the lowest offensive output for an opponent since holding Ohio State to 82 yards in the 2006 National Championship
The Seminoles opened the scoring when Freeman scored from a yard out with 6:34 left in the first quarter.
He added a second one-yard touchdown run 36 seconds into the second period, leading Florida State to a 14-0 lead that would hold into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Seminoles extended their lead to 21-0 when Terrence Parks took an interception 29 yards to the end zone with 12:20 left in the fourth quarter.
Florida's only points came when Jacoby Brissett hit Quinton Dunbar with a six- yard scoring pass with 4:16 left in the game. That touchdown also came off a turnover, a Florida State fumble and helped Florida avoid its first shutout cine 1988.
The two teams managed just 279 yards in total offense between them. Florida's four interceptions were the most since they throwing four against LSU in 2002.
