Laramie, WY (Sports Network) - Ryan Lindley threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns, helping lift the San Diego State Aztecs to a 48-38 triumph over the Wyoming Cowboys in a Mountain West Conference showdown at War Memorial Stadium.

DeMarco Sampson hauled in seven passes for 175 yards and two scores for the Aztecs (6-2, 3-1 MWC), who notched their third straight win to become bowl eligible for the first time since 1998. Brandon Sullivan scored on three short touchdown runs for the victors.

On the other sideline, the Cowboys (2-7, 0-5) suffered their fourth consecutive loss and are still winless in conference play. Austyn Carta- Samuels threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran for 51 yards and a score.

SDSU took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter thanks to a 21-yard field goal by kicker Abel Perez in the opening frame.

Perez kicked a 28-yarder at the 14:44 mark of the second quarter to make it a 6-0 game.

Later in the second quarter, the Aztecs lost a fumble on a punt return at their own 13-yard line, which set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from Carta- Samuels to Zach Bolger with 11:28 to play until halftime.

Three minutes later, Wyoming pushed its lead to 10-6 on a 30-yard field goal by Ian Watts.

On the ensuing drive, Lindley hooked up with Sampson for a 56-yard scoring strike to put SDSU on top, 13-10.

But the Cowboys responded with a touchdown drive of their own, as Carta- Samuels found David Leonard for a 13-yard touchdown pass to reclaim the lead.

The seesaw battle continued, as the Aztecs put together a nine-play, 80-yard drive to close out the first half with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lindley to D.J. Shields.

SDSU struck first in the second half, when Sullivan found the end zone on a one-yard run to put the Aztecs on top, 27-17 with 7:35 to play in the third quarter.

Four minutes later, Wyoming answered with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Carta- Samuels to Leonard, cutting the deficit to 27-24.

But SDSU began to pull away with a couple of fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Sullivan. The first came after a 10-play, 71-yard drive to push the lead back to 34-24.

On the next possession, SDSU's Andrew Preston intercepted Carta-Samuels and returned it to the Wyoming 9. Three plays later, Sullivan notched his third touchdown run to make it a 41-24 game with 12:26 to play.

But the Cowboys weren't ready to go away, as they marched right back down the field and scored on a 20-yard run by Carta-Samuels with 9:59 remaining.

Wyoming trimmed the margin to 41-38 when Alvester Alexander crossed the goal line on a 17-yard run with 7:32 to play.

However, SDSU responded with a five-play, 80-yard drive, capped by Lindley's back-breaking 59-yard touchdown pass to Sampson to push the lead back to 10. This time, the Cowboys weren't able to answer.

Wyoming scored on all six of its trips to the red zone, which included five touchdowns and one field goal.
