Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Zach Line rushed for 202 yards and one touchdown to lead the SMU Mustangs to a 31-17 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd in a Conference-USA showdown at Ford Stadium.

Kyle Padron overcame two interceptions by throwing for 230 yards and two touchdowns for SMU (6-5, 5-2 C-USA), which is now bowl eligible and can clinch a spot in the conference title game with a victory over East Carolina next week.

Brian Anderson threw for 277 yards and one touchdown for Marshall (4-7, 3-4), but the quarterback was also intercepted three times, and sacked on four different occasions.

SMU found the end zone on its first drive, as Padron connected with Bradley Haynes for an eight-yard touchdown pass.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 14-0 early in the second stanza when Padron hit Aldrick Robinson for a 41-yard scoring strike.

A one-yard touchdown plunge by Padron pushed SMU's advantage to 21-0 midway through the second stanza.

Marcello Sada's 20-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter gave the Mustangs a 24-0 lead as the two teams went into the locker room.

Marshall finally got on the scoreboard on its first drive of the third quarter when Tyler Warner drilled a 22-yard kick.

The Thundering Herd cut their deficit to 24-10 midway through the quarter when Anderson found C.J. Crawford for a 32-yard touchdown.

Line capped off a nine-play, 84-yard drive for SMU with a four-yard touchdown run in the final seconds of the third quarter.

Essray Taliaferro's 11-yard touchdown run cut Marshall's deficit to 31-17, but the Thundering Herd were unable to come any closer to SMU, which was able to hold on for the 14-point win.
