NCAA Game Summary - Memphis at Marshall

Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Brian Anderson threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Marshall Thundering Herd in a 28-13 triumph of the Memphis Tigers in a Conference USA showdown at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

Anderson connected on 20-of-28 pass attempts and was picked once for Marshall (4-6, 3-3 CUSA), which extended its winning streak to three games. Lee Smith hauled in seven passes for 73 yards and a score, while Troy Evans made three catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Evans also had 28 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Ryan Williams led Memphis (1-9, 0-6), which dropped its seventh game in a row, with 201 yards and a score on 14-of-32 pass attempts. Jermaine McKenzie was his main outlet, finishing with six catches for 109 yards and a score.

The Tigers jumped out first in this one, as McKenzie hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Williams early in the opening quarter.

Paulo Henriques hit a 25-yard field goal early in the second quarter and Memphis carried a 10-0 lead into the break.

Marshall got on the board early in the third quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run from Evans.

Less than two minutes later, Courtney Edmonson snared a six-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to give the Herd a 14-10 edge.

Marshall extended its lead just seconds into the final quarter courtesy of a 32-yard scoring strike from Anderson to Smith.

Memphis made it a 21-13 game midway through the fourth quarter after Henriques booted a 45-yard field goal.

The game, though, was put away when Evans reeled in a 62-yard touchdown pass from Anderson with just over six minutes remaining.

The Herd gained 369 yards of total offense compared to just 241 by Memphis.
