Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Jermaine Rogers blocked an extra-point attempt with 31 seconds left in regulation as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held on to defeat the North Texas Mean Green, 28-27, in a Sun Belt Conference thriller.
Chris Masson was 18-of-32 through the air for the Ragin' Cajuns (2-2, 2-1 Sun Belt) for 310 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Spikes caught four balls for 99 yards and a touchdown. Javone Lawson hauled in four receptions for 77 yards and a score, while Richie Falgout caught four passes for 69 yards.
Lance Dunbar ran for 141 yards on 24 carries with one touchdown for the Mean Green (1-4, 1-1). Riley Dodge was 22-of-31 through the air for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
Louisiana opened the scoring when Blaine Gautier scored on a one-yard run with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
It became a 14-0 game when Lance Kelley recovered a Mean Green fumble and returned it 40 yards for a Louisiana touchdown.
Dodge got North Texas on the scoreboard with a six-yard run with six minutes left in the first half.
Louisiana responded immediately when Masson hit Spikes with an 82-yard touchdown pass on the first play of Ragin' Cajuns' next possession.
Dodge found Lott with a 37-yard touchdown pass just inside the two-minute mark of the first half to cut the deficit to 21-14.
The Ragin' Cajuns extended their lead when Masson hit Lawson on a 60-yard touchdown pass two minutes into the third quarter.
The Mean Green cut the deficit to 28-21 when Dunbar scored from three yards out with nine minutes left in regulation.
Dodge hit Darius Carey on a three-yard scoring pass with 32 seconds left in regulation, but Rogers deflected Trent Deans' extra-point conversion attempt.
Louisiana was limited to just 41 net rushing yards and was outgained 378-351 overall. North Texas was penalized 15 times for 102 yards.
The Mean Green took the field in the wake of the death of wide receiver Josh Rake. The freshman walk on died Friday from injuries sustained in a traffic accident on Thursday.
The North Texas players wore decals on their helmets with Rake's initials during the game.
