The Trojans evened the score at seven apiece when Shawn Southward broke free for a 33-yard touchdown scamper.
FIU followed that score with 24 unanswered points, beginning with a 44-yard field goal by Jack Griffin, just seconds into the second stanza.
Less than two minutes later the Golden Panthers pushed their lead to 17-7 when Hilton scored on a long 80-yard run.
Perry added a four-yard touchdown run, and just over a minute later Mallary found the end zone on a nine-yard scamper, pushing FIU's lead to 31-7.
Southward broke up FIU's fun with a one-yard touchdown plunge, but the Golden Panthers wasted little time responding as Carroll found Greg Ellingson with a 52-yard scoring strike.
With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Southward found the end zone for a third time, but this score came through the air, as Robinson connected with the tailback for an eight-yard touchdown, sending the Trojans into the break on the wrong end of a 38-21 score.
On their first play from scrimmage in the second half, Hilton broke free once again, rumbling down field for a 61-yard touchdown run.
That score was followed by back-to-back touchdowns from Troy. The first was a 39-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Jamel Johnson. DuJuan Harris' nine- yard TD scamper cut Troy's deficit to 45-35 as the third frame came to an end.
FIU, however, continued to push forward, as Carroll connected with Jonathan Faucher for a 23-yard score, pushing the team's lead back to 17 points, and that is where it would stay until the final whistle.
