NCAA Game Summary - Western Kentucky at Arkansas State

Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Derrius Brooks notched two interceptions and scored the game-winning two-point conversions in overtime, giving the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers a wild 36-35 victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a Sun Belt Conference battle at ASU Stadium.

Kawaun Jakes also had a big game for WKU (2-8, 2-4 SBC) with two touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. He completed 11-of-27 tosses for 151 yards, while rushing for 39 yards. Bobby Rainey headed the ground attack, as he ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.

Ryan Aplin guided ASU (5-5, 4-3) in the loss with 96 yards on the ground and another 306 through the air. He totaled five touchdowns, with three coming via the pass. Dwayne Frampton hauled in 10 passes for 59 yards and a score, while Taylor Stockemer had five catches that went for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

The lone score of the first quarter came from ASU, as Stockemer grabbed a 23- yard touchdown pass from Aplin.

Rainey scored on a three-yard run early in the second quarter for WKU and the teams went into the break knotted at 7-7.

The Toppers took the lead with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. Jakes first scurried three yards to paydirt before throwing a 33-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Haynes.

The Red Wolves, however, rattled off 21 straight points in the fourth quarter for a 28-21 lead. Aplin threw touchdown passes for 15 and six yards, respectively, before putting ASU ahead on a two-yard run with 1:49 left.

WKU, though, refused to give in and tied the game on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jakes to Willie McNeal on the last play of regulation.

ASU wasted little time with its possession in overtime, as Aplin scored on a 25-yard run on the very first play.

The Toppers responded with a three-yard touchdown run from Rainey. They then elected to go for the win and Brooks got the job done for WKU with a dive for the end zone on the two-point conversion try.
