Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Kawaun Jakes threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers trounced the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 54-21, in a Sun Belt Conference affair at Cajun Field.

Jakes completed 18-of-22 pass attempts for 262 yards and added another 28 yards on the ground for WKU (1-6, 1-2 Sun Belt), which ended the nation's longest losing streak at 26 games.

The Toppers scored the only points of the opening quarter with a 20-yard field goal from Casey Tinius.

WKU added to its lead early in the second quarter when Jamarcus Allen returned a fumble 69 yards to paydirt.

Louisiana responded moments later with a 52-yard touchdown pass from Masson to Aaron Spikes.

The Toppers, though, rattled off the last 17 points of the half to take a 27-7 lead into the intermission. Jakes started things off with a one-yard plunge for a score before Antonio Andrews scooted four yards for a touchdown. On the last play of the half, Tinius booted a 47-yard field goal for WKU.

McGuire tried to keep the Cajuns in the game with a one-yard touchdown run just after the break.

However, the Toppers responded with four consecutive touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Things began with a one-yard touchdown run from Jakes, who then tossed a 43-yard scoring strike to Demetrius Coley. Early in the fourth quarter, Derrius Brooks returned an interception 62 yards for a score, and Andrews followed with a 30-yard touchdown run for a 54-14 advantage.

The Cajuns closed the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run from McGuire.
