Final Score: Marshall 24, Ohio University 23
Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - The Ohio Bobcats failed on a two-point conversion attempt on the last play of the game, as the Marshall Thundering Herd survived for a 24-23 win in a non-conference showdown at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Quarterback Brian Anderson led the way in the victory for Marshall (1-3) by completing 21-of-30 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns went the way of receiver Antavious Wilson, who caught seven balls for 119 yards.
Ohio (1-3) received a big night from Terrence McCrae, who had four receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Bobcats' quarterback Boo Jackson threw for 115 yards with two scores and one interception in the loss.
Marshall took the first lead of the contest on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to Wilson.
The stayed that way until 3:48 remained in the second quarter when the Bobcats were able to finally strike, as kicker Matt Weller hit a 48-yard field goal.
Marshall found paydirt before the clock expired in the first half, as Anderson hit Andre Booker for a seven-yard touchdown strike. The extra point was blocked by Ohio and the Thundering Herd took a 13-3 lead into the intermission.
The Bobcats scored on the opening possession of the second half, as Jackson completed a two-yard pass to Terrence McCrae.
The Thundering Herd answered back with a 23-yard field goal from Tyler Warner for a 16-10.
Ohio took its first lead of the night, 17-16, when Paul Hershey darted in for a six-yard rushing touchdown.
However, that lead wouldn't last very long, as Anderson once again found Wilson in the end zone from 12 yards out to push the Thundering Herd back on top, 24-17, after a successful two-point conversion.
As time expired, Jackson tossed a 36-yard prayer that was answered by McCrae, good enough to bring the game to within 24-23. The Bobcats then elected to go for the glory and attempted a two-point conversion, but Jackson's pass sailed through the end zone and Marshall took the exciting one-point victory.
