Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Austin Dantin threw one touchdown and ran for another as he led the Toledo Rockets to the 34-21 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference bout at the Glass Bowl.
Dantin converted 30-of-47 passes for 229 yards and survived two sacks as the Rockets (4-3, 3-0 MAC) snapped a two-game slide. Dantin also gained a team- best 72 yards on 11 carries, while receiver Eric Page stepped up with a game- high 14 catches for 109 yards.
The Golden Flashes (2-4, 1-2) were paced by Jacquise Terry who gained 92 yards and scored all three touchdowns on 23 carries for the visitors as they fell for the fourth time in the last five outings. Spencer Keith converted 16-of-28 passes for 145 yards, was picked off once and sacked two times in the setback.
Terry got KSU off on the right foot in the first quarter with rushing touchdowns of one and five yards, adding a third TD of two yards with 3:44 remaining in the first half. In between Dantin put Toledo on the board with a 22-yard TD strike to Adonis Thomas, but it was Kent State that owned a 21-7 edge at the break.
The second half belonged to the Rockets as they ripped off 27 unanswered points to capture the victory. The run began with an 11-yard TD scamper by Bernard Reedy, followed by a 22-yard scoring run by Thomas to knot the score at 21-21 with 6:24 remaining in the third frame. Kicker Bill Claus booted field goals of 38 and 32 yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, while Dantin clinched the 13-point decision with a six-yard TD run late in the final frame.
Kent State controlled the ball for barely 23 minutes on the night, converted just 2-of-10 on third down and finished up with 275 yards of total offense.
