DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Chandler Harnish threw for 160 yards with a pair of touchdowns to lead the Northern Illinois Huskies to a 45-14 victory over the Buffalo Bulls in a Mid-American Conference battle at Huskie Stadium.
Chad Spann ran for 111 yards on 31 carries and scored twice to lead a potent NIU ground attack, as Jordan Lynch added 96 yards and a score as well for the Huskies (5-2, 3-0 MAC). Harnish gained 75 yards and scored a touchdown on 14 rushing attempts.
Jerry Davis had a rough day under center in the loss for Buffalo (2-4, 0-2), completing just 7-of-23 pass attempts for 101 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Marcus Rivers caught three passes for 94 yards and a score for the Bulls.
Following an opening period that was dominated by defense, the Huskies opened the scoring with a 10-yard strike from Harnish to Landon Cox early in the second quarter.
The Bulls responded midway through the frame as Gordon Dubois returned a Harnish interception 27 yards for a score.
Harnish then found Willie Clark late in the stanza with a 25-yard strike to give the Huskies a 14-7 lead. The Huskies took a 21-7 lead less than two minutes later with a one-yard Spann plunge.
But the Bulls cut the Huskies lead to 21-14 with under a minute remaining in the half with an 81-yard toss from Davis to Rivers.
A 34-yard Michael Cklamovski field goal early in the third period of play gave the Huskies a 24-14 lead, while a two-yard TD run from Spann late in the frame gave NIU a 31-14 advantage. The Huskies made it 38-14 midway through the final period of play with a 12-yard Harnish scamper, and then pulled even further ahead late in the frame following a TD run of 90 yards by Lynch.
The Huskies amassed 441 yards of total offense in the meeting, compared to just 250 yards by the Bulls.
