Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Terrance Owens threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Toledo Rockets to a 33-14 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference bout at the Glass Bowl.
Adonis Thomas led Toledo (7-4, 6-1 MAC) on the ground with 163 yards and one touchdown, while Eric Page, who threw a touchdown in the win, finished with 111 yards and one receiving score on nine receptions.
Matt Schilz threw for 219 yards and one touchdown for BGSU (2-9, 1-6), but was also intercepted twice in the loss.
The Rockets dominated the first 15 minutes of action, scoring 19 consecutive points, beginning with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Owens to Page. However, the extra point was blocked, leaving Toledo's lead at 6-0.
Midway through the opening quarter Owens tossed his second TD pass, connecting with Kenny Stafford for a 33-yard scoring strike. Toledo went for the two- point conversion, but was unsuccessful, leaving its lead at 12-0.
The third score came less than two minutes later, as coach Tim Beckman used one of the tricks up his sleeve, and it worked to perfection, as Page fired a pass to Tim Cortazzo for a 35-yard touchdown.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard early in the second stanza when Schilz hit Calvin Wiley with a 13-yard scoring strike.
However, Toledo answered back on the first play of its next possession, as Thomas broke free and scampered down field for an 81-yard touchdown run.
Early in the third quarter Bowling Green cut its deficit to 26-14 when Eugene Cooper returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown.
The Rockets would continue to score however, as Bernard Reedy found the end zone on a nine-yard run, pushing Toledo's lead to 33-14, which would eventually be the final score.
The Rockets racked up 537 total yards of offense, and also converted 7-of-15 third down attempts. On the other side, BGSU finished with just 254 yards and committed four costly turnovers.
