Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Mohamed Sanu threw a touchdown pass and ran for the winning score in the fourth period, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights came from behind to beat the FIU Golden Panthers, 19-14, in non-conference play at FIU Stadium.
Sanu ran for 44 yards on nine carries, caught four balls for 25 yards and threw a 24-yard touchdown pass for the Scarlet Knights (2-0).
Jeremiah Harden ran for 88 yards on 15 carries, while also catching three balls for 26 yards and a score for the Golden Panthers (0-1).
San San Te's 43-yard field goal five-and-a-half minutes into the opening period gave Rutgers a 3-0 lead.
FIU took the lead with less than two minutes left in the opening period when Wesley Carroll hit Wayne Times with a 28-yard touchdown toss.
Rutgers moved in front with just over five minutes left until halftime when Sanu hit D.C. Jefferson with a 24-yard touchdown throw.
Te booted a 42-yard field goal to give Rutgers a 13-7 lead at intermission.
Carroll put the Golden Panthers back in front when he found Harden with a 17- yard scoring pass two minutes into the third quarter.
Sanu's 24-yard dash with 13:07 left proved to be the game winner.
The two teams combined were just 5-of-26 on third-down conversions.
