Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Danny O'Brien threw two touchdowns and ran in another for Maryland, as the Terrapins defeated the Virginia Cavaliers, 42-23, in an ACC bout at Scott Stadium.

O'Brien finished with 289 yards on 17-of-28 efficiency for Maryland (7-3, 4-2 ACC), while Torrey Smith collected one touchdown, to go along with 157 yards on seven catches. D.J. Adams only rushed for 37 yards in the matchup, but found the end zone three times.

Marc Verica threw for 265 yards and one touchdown for Virginia (4-6, 1-5), but was intercepted twice in the loss.

Robert Randolph's 35-yard field goal gave the Cavs an early 3-0 lead.

However, the Terps wasted little time gaining a 7-3 edge, as Adams found the end zone on a six-yard run.

Virginia responded instantly when Jacob Hodges found Terence Fells-Danzer for a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Maryland regained the lead early in the second stanza on a 12-yard touchdown run by O'Brien. That was followed by a one-yard TD plunge by Adams that pushed Maryland's lead to 21-10.

Verica connected with Jeremiah Mathis for a one-yard TD pass and catch, and then Chris Hinkebein drilled a 52-yard kick as time expired to pull Virginia within one-point at intermission.

The lone points of the third quarter came off the foot of Randolph, who connected on a 37-yard kick to put Virginia back on top, 23-21.

The Cavs were unable to contain Maryland any longer however, as the Terps punished their conference foe for 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. The first score came seconds into the final frame, as Adams found the end zone on a two-yard run.

O'Brien's two-yard TD pass to Da'Rel Scott made it a 35-23 advantage in favor of Maryland, and the quarterback finished off Virginia when he connected with Smith on a 12-yard scoring strike with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
