Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Russell Wilson threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns as the NC State Wolfpack rolled over the Boston College Eagles 44-17 in an ACC battle at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Wilson was 38-of-51 through the air for the Wolfpack (5-1, 2-1 ACC) who are off to their best start in eight years. Wilson's 38 completions tied a school record. Wilson was also his team's leading rusher with 45 yards on 14 carries. Owen Spencer caught eight balls for 70 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles (2-3, 0-2) struggled throughout the contest. Starting quarterback Dave Shinskie was just 7-of-24 through the air for only 89 yards and a touchdown, and was also intercepted twice. Montel Harris carried the ball 14 times for just 53 yards in the setback.
The Wolfpack got on the scoreboard first on Josh Czajkowski's 40-yard field goal early in the first quarter.
A minute later it became a 10-0 game when D.J. Green recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a NC State touchdown.
The Eagles responded when Nate Freese booted a 23-yard field goal in the opening seconds of the second quarter.
The Wolfpack extended their lead to 17-3 when Wilson hit Spencer on a 23-yard toss less than three minutes later and added another score when Wilson found Darrell Davis with a five-yard toss with just over six minutes remaining in the first half.
Shinskie's 15-yard pass to Ifeanyi Momah made it a 24-10 game with just over two minutes left in the second stanza, but Czajkowski added a 44-yard field goal just seconds before intermission to give the Wolfpack a 27-10 lead.
NC State extended its lead to 34-10 five minutes into the third quarter when C.J. Wilson picked off a Shinskie throw and returned it 28 yards for a score.
Wilson hit Jarvis Williams with a six-yard TD pass less than two minutes into the final frame to increase the Wolfpack lead. Czajkowski added a 31-yard field goal midway through the period to make it a 44-10 game.
The Eagles scored a consolation touchdown when Mike Marscovetra hit Alex Amidon with a 67-yard touchdown pass with just under six minutes left in the game.
The Wolfpack netted just 75 rushing yards but averaged 5.0 yards per carry. Boston College was just 5-of-17 on third-down conversions.
NC State's 5-1 start is its best since 2002 when the Wolfpack started 9-0.
