Final Score: Notre Dame 31, Boston College 13
Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Dayne Crist threw for 203 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns to lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 31-13 romp over the Boston College Eagles in non-conference action.
Crist threw two scoring passes and ran for a touchdown for Notre Dame (2-3), which beat the Eagles for the second consecutive season.
Bobby Swigert made seven catches for 137 yards and a touchdown in defeat for Boston College (2-2). Backup quarterback Mike Marscovetra threw two costly interceptions for the Eagles.
Notre Dame got off to a tremendous start in the contest, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first 13 minutes. Crist got things going with a seven-yard scoring scamper before tossing a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph. Then, Crist hit Theo Riddick with a 20-yard touchdown strike.
With 19 seconds left in the opening period, Boston College cut its deficit to 21-7 with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Chase Rettig to Swigert. Rettig was knocked out of the contest shortly thereafter, forcing Marscovetra into action.
There were three field goals in the second quarter, including two from Boston College's Nate Freese from 49 and 25 yards out that further cut the team's deficit to 21-13. Notre Dame's David Ruffer answered with a 37-yarder, bringing the score to 24-13 by intermission.
The only points of the second half came on a two-yard touchdown run by Notre Dame's Armando Allen, who finished with 90 rushing yards on 19 carries.
An obvious key to the victory for the Fighting Irish was that they limited Boston College to five net rushing yards in the tilt.
