NCAA Game Summary - Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

(Saturday, October 16th)

Final Score: (20) Oklahoma State 34, Texas Tech 17

Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Justin Blackmon recorded 10 receptions for 207 yards and one touchdown as 20th-ranked Oklahoma State downed Texas Tech, 34-17, at Jones Stadium.

Kendall Hunter added 130 yards and a score on 25 carries and Brandon Weeden threw for 356 yards on 24-of-35 completions for the Cowboys (6-0, 2-0 Big 12), who won in Lubbock for the first time since 1944 in advance of hosting conference powerhouse Nebraska next Saturday.

"I thought it was the most complete game that we have played in all three phases," said OSU head coach Mike Gundy. "We started fast on offense then we went into a lull for a little while and defense picked us up. Same thing happened when the defense allowed a couple of long drives then the offense was able to come back in and (Justin) Blackmon made a big play. The key in the second half was being able to run the football and force turnovers. I was really proud of our team for playing really well on the road."

Joseph Randle gained 95 yards and scored a rushing TD on 17 attempts, while Jeremy Smith contributed another touchdown on the ground.

Taylor Potts posted 226 yards passing and threw for a touchdown on 28-of-43 efficiency for the Red Raiders (3-3, 1-3), who have dropped three of four since winning two in a row to begin the season.

Cornelius Douglas had a 28-yard TD reception among his four catches for 53 yards and Baron Batch had 83 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

The schools combined to rack up nearly 1,000 yards of total offense, with Oklahoma State piling up 581.

Oklahoma State converted its second drive of the game, as Hunter capped a 61- yard drive with a 15-yard scoring run. OSU then struck on its following series, going up 14-0 when Randle rumbled in for a four-yard score.

The Cowboys kept rolling on their next drive, going up by three scores after Smith's four-yard TD run, before Texas Tech got on the board with a one-yard run from Batch early in the second that finished off an 80-yard drive in 15 plays.

The Red Raiders held OSU to a three-and-out and got the ball near midfield following the punt, then climbed within a touchdown on that 28-yard connection between Potts and Douglas.

Dan Bailey's 35-yard make gave the Cowboys a 10-point edge at halftime.

Blackmon gave OSU a 31-14 lead early in the third when he took a Weeden pass and raced down the right sideline for a 62-yard score. Matt Williams provided the only counterpunch for Texas Tech in the period, on a 27-yard field goal.

Bailey's 32-yard field goal capped Oklahoma State's first drive of the fourth and provided a 17-point edge for the visitors, which was guarded for the remainder of the contest.

"There was not a whole lot of talk about a 66 year streak...that was not on our mind, but looking back that is a pretty big feat," Weeden admitted. "We have had some very good football teams come in here and we were fortunate enough to get the win. It's a big accomplishment for this team."
