Carson Coffman was outstanding in a reserve role, throwing for 270 yards and two scores. One of those scores went to Aubrey Quarles, who finished with 114 yards on five catches.

Klein's one-yard touchdown run early in the opening quarter gave KSU a 7-0 lead.

Aric Goodman connected on a 48-yard field goal for Colorado, but Klein plunged into the end zone for another one-yard score minutes later, giving the Wildcats a 14-3 lead.

In the final seconds of the opening quarter Stewart found the end zone on a one-yard run, but a blocked extra point left the Buffs on the wrong end of a 14-9 score.

However, Colorado would take its first lead of the game early in the second stanza when Stewart connected with Toney Clemons on a 23-yard scoring strike.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half the Buffs pushed their lead to 23-14 with a 37-yard pass and catch between Hawkins and McKnight.

The duo of Hawkins and McKnight hooked up again, this time for a 13-yard touchdown that extended Colorado's lead to 30-14 midway through the third frame.

Kansas State was able to cut its deficit to eight points thanks to a six-yard touchdown run by Coffman, which was followed a Daniel Thomas pass to Andre McDonald for a two-point conversion.

Colorado struck back less than two minutes later when Stewart broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats tried to fight back early in the final frame when Coffman hit Quarles for a 16-yard scoring strike.

But once again the Buffs answered right back, as Hawkins connected with Paul Richardson for a three-yard touchdown, pushing Colorado's lead to 44-29.

Coffman and the Wildcats kept clawing their way back, as the quarterback found Chris Harper for a 23-yard touchdown midway through the final frame. However, the Buffs would keep KSU off the scoreboard the remainder of the contest, holding on for the eight-point victory.
