Final Score: (18) Iowa 45, Ball State 0
Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - Adam Robinson carried 22 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns and Ricky Stanzi threw two touchdown passes to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos to lead 18th-ranked Iowa to comfortable 45-0 win over Ball State at Kinnick Stadium.
Stanzi completed 19-of-25 throws for 288 yards and three scores for the Hawkeyes (3-1), who bounced from a loss at Arizona last week to win for the 18th time in their last 21 games.
Johnson-Koulianos made four catches for 87 yards and Robinson caught three passes for a career-high 75 yards for the hosts, who are 15-2 at home since the start of the 2008 season.
Kelly Page connected on 4-of-11 throws for 30 yards and Eric Williams toted 10 times for 21 yards for an offense that mustered just eight first downs and 112 total yards as the Cardinals (1-3) who fell for a 20th time in 21 meetings against a Big Ten opponent.
"Iowa is really well-coached," said Ball State head coach Stan Parrish. "They have the ability to run the football and their quarterback did a really good job. They are a very, very complete football team. They are a physical midwestern team that plays football the way you are supposed to play football."
Robinson's one-yard scoring run capped off a 10-play, 56-yard drive that put the hosts on the board with just over 6 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter.
Stanzi rolled right and found Keenan Davis open in the back of the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown toss with 5:40 left in the first half to extend the Hawkeyes' lead to 14-0.
Cardinals QB Keith Wenning fumbled on the Cardinals next possession, and Iowa took possession at the visitors' 38 after a video replay confirmed the call on the field.
The Hawkeyes cashed in three plays later when Stanzi lofted a 22-yard scoring pass to Johnson-Koulianos that made it 21-0 with 1:54 left in the half.
Iowa moved 65 yards on six plays on its first second half possession and the drive was capped on Robinson's second one-yard scoring run of the day. He set up the touchdown with a 48-yard catch and run to the Ball State seven.
Johnson-Koulianos made a leaping grab in the end zone to complete a 45-yard scoring pass from Stanzi to make it a 35-0 game with just under 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter.
"He's worked hard. He's played a lot now, he's a fifth-year quarterback. To me he just seems more comfortable in all regards and he's throwing better deep balls," said Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz when asked if Stanzi is more patient in the pocket than he was a year ago.
Iowa struck again 4 1/2 minutes into the final stanza on a six-yard scoring toss from James Vandenberg to Colin Sandeman to finish off a 10-play, 80-yard march.
Michael Meyer's 25-yard field goal with 5:09 to play finished the scoring.
