Final Score: (3) Boise State 37, (24) Oregon State 24
Boise, ID (Sports Network) - Kellen Moore threw three scores and third-ranked Boise State made another big statement with a 37-24 win over No. 24 Oregon State on the famed blue turf at Bronco Stadium.
Austin Pettis caught a touchdown pass and threw for a score for the Broncos (3-0), who continued their impressive play by beating their second ranked foe this season. Boise State, which extended its home winning streak to 27 games, also turned aside Virginia Tech in the season-opener before thrashing Wyoming last Saturday.
Moore completed 19-of-27 passes for 288 yards, Titus Young had five catches for 136 yards and a TD, and Doug Martin rushed 19 times for 138 yards in Boise State's 17th straight victory.
"The good thing about this game is we were able to come out with a 'W', but I think everyone in that locker room knows how hard we made it on ourselves," Broncos coach Chris Petersen said. "At times we were very, very frustrated with ourselves. Just some really costly penalties and I think our special teams play we need to tighten up a little bit as well."
Ryan Katz connected on 12-of-26 throws for 159 yards with a TD for the Beavers (1-2), who were coming off a victory over Louisville a week ago. Wide receiver James Rodgers was shaken up early in the third quarter when he collided helmet-to-helmet with Boise State's Winston Venable while making a block.
"We didn't execute as well as we needed to against that team to win," Oregon State coach Mike Riley said. "We left quite a few plays out there in the first half with opportunities."
Oregon State took advantage of a Young fumble on a punt return, and pulled within 31-24 with 42 seconds left in the third thanks to some good fortune. Darrell Catching made a 27-yard catch over the middle, but fumbled into the end zone, where tight end Joe Halahuni fell on the ball.
Kyle Brotzman kicked a 33-yard field goal early in the fourth and split the uprights from 30 yards away with 2:14 remaining to seal the victory.
Pettis threw a six-yard TD pass to Tommy Gallarda less than five minutes into the game, but Oregon tied it on Rodgers' 54-yard punt return. James Rodgers surged down the left sideline for the score.
Brotzman kicked a 21-yard field goal early in the second quarter for Boise State, and the Broncos expanded to a 10-point lead when Moore found Pettis from 17 yards out for a TD.
Justin Kahut kicked a 31-yard field goal with nearly six minutes left in the half, but a short time later Young reeled in a 49-yard scoring toss from Moore for a 24-10 halftime margin. Kahut missed a 25-yard field goal wide right in the closing seconds of the half.
Jacquizz Rodgers' four-yard run into the end zone brought OSU within 24-17 with 5:28 left in the third, as OSU moved the ball 81 yards in 14 plays.
But the Broncos came right back as Moore hit Tyler Shoemaker for a 21-yard TD pass.
