NCAA Game Summary - California at Washington State

Pullman, WA (Sports Network) - Shane Vereen ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns to power the California Golden Bears to a 20-13 victory over the Washington State Cougars in a Pac-10 Conference clash.

Marvin Jones recorded four catches for 101 yards in the victory for California (5-4, 3-3 Pac-10), which needs one more win to become bowl eligible.

Jeff Tuel completed only 9-of-25 passes for 92 yards for Washington State (1-9, 0-7), which has lost 18 straight games against FBS competition.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Cougars got on the board first with a 10- yard touchdown run by Logwone Mitz.

Cal tied the score at 7-7 with a two-yard Vereen touchdown three minutes later.

Washington State regained the lead late in the first half with a 51-yard field goal by Andrew Furney.

With 11:17 left in the third quarter, Cal grabbed a 14-10 advantage with a 27- yard touchdown run by Jeremy Ross.

Late in that third frame, the Cougars cut their deficit to 14-13 on a 48-yard field goal by Furney.

Unfortunately for Washington State, it was blanked in the fourth quarter, and Cal brought the score to its final of 20-13 with a one-yard touchdown run by Vereen.

The Golden Bears played tremendous defense in the tilt, limiting Washington State to 194 total yards.
