NCAA Game Summary - Wake Forest at Vanderbilt

(Saturday, November 27th)

Final Score: Wake Forest 34, Vanderbilt 13

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Josh Harris ran for a game-high 138 yards and a score as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons posted a 34-13 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in non-conference action at Vanderbilt Stadium.

The Demon Deacons (3-9) ran for a total of 226 yards and four touchdowns as they snapped a lengthy nine-game slide which was the longest in the nation entering the day. Quarterback Tanner Price threw for 73 yards and ran for another 30 yards as he hit the end zone once in the long-overdue triumph.

The Commodores (2-10) were paced by Jared Funk who connected on 27-of-61 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown, but he was also sacked three times and picked off twice in the team's seventh straight setback.

Vandy's Ryan Fowler got the hosts off on the right foot early in the first quarter when he booted a 31-yard field goal to put the Commodores ahead for a moment.

After that Wake Forest ripped off 24 straight points, beginning with a 15-yard TD run by Harris less than three minutes later. Kicker Jimmy Newman converted a 32-yard field goal at the 5:12 mark of the first frame, while Josh Adams and Price posted rushing touchdowns of 11 and four yards, respectively, to lift the advantage to 24-3.

Fowler capped a nine-play, 54-yard drive with nine seconds remaining in the first half with another 31-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 24-6 at the break.

In the third quarter Newman made good on a 36-yard field goal for Wake and early in the fourth the Demon Deacons piled on with a Chris Givens nine-yard TD run.

Trailing by a 34-6 score, Vandy had one last gasp in the meeting as Funk connected with Jordan Matthews on a 17-yard TD strike, but it was too little, too late in the 21-point decision.

Wake Forest picked up the victory despite generating just 299 yards of offense and converted 2-of-11 on third-down attempts.
