NCAA Game Summary - Louisiana Tech at Utah State

(Saturday, October 24th)

Final Score: Utah State 23, Louisiana Tech 21

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Chris Ulinski knocked through a trio of field goals to help lift the Utah State Aggies to a 23-21 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Western Athletic Conference action at Romney Stadium.

The Aggies (2-5, 1-2 WAC) were led on offense by quarterback Diondre Borel who converted 17-of-31 passes for 188 yards and a score, while Robert Turbin posted a game-high 94 yards on the ground.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 2-2), who lost for the second time in the last three outings, were led by Ross Jenkins who hit on 17-of-26 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also picked off once and sacked four times in the team's third loss in seven meetings against USU.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Borel hit Stanley Morrison with a 41-yard TD pass to put the home team on top by a 7-0 score. Two-and-a-half minutes later the Aggies added to their advantage on the strength of a 28-yard field goal by Ulinski.

The ensuing kickoff went to one of the most dangerous return men in college football, Phillip Livas, and he made the Aggies pay with a 100-yard return for a touchdown to make the score 10-7.

Utah State's Derrvin Speight pushed the lead to double digits as he made his way into the end zone on a 44-yard run. With just 17 seconds remaining in the half Ulinski knocked through a 27-yard field goal to provide the locals with a 20-7 edge at the break.

The only points in the third quarter were tallied by Ulinski on a 40-yard field goal.

The Bulldogs made a game of it in the fourth quarter as Jenkins threw TD passes of 26 and 20 yards to R.P. Stuart and Dennis Morris, respectively, but it was too little, too late as the visitors converted a two-point play following the first score but came up empty after the Morris tally.

Utah State put forth a balanced attack, generating 157 yards on the ground and another 188 yards through the air as they gave first-year head coach Gary Andersen his first win in WAC play.
