NCAA Game Summary - Louisiana Tech at Nevada

(Friday, October 9th)

Final Score: Nevada 37, Louisiana Tech 14

Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Colin Kaepernick threw for three touchdowns and ran for another two scores to lead the Nevada Wolf Pack in a 37-14 rout of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Mackay Stadium.

Kaepernick threw for 166 yards on 15-of-21 efficiency and added another 89 yards on 12 carries for the Wolf Pack (2-3, 1-0 Western Athletic), who have won five in a row over the Bulldogs. Vai Taua totaled 107 yards on 17 carries, while Brandon Wimberly, Virgil Green and Talaiasi Puloka Jr. each caught a TD pass in the win.

It was a special win for Nevada coach Chris Ault, who improved to 200-94-1 in his 25-year career. He became the sixth active coach in the Football Subdivision with 200 wins. The other five are: Penn State's Joe Paterno, Florida State's, Bobby Bowden, Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer, Ohio State's Jim Tressel, and Texas' Mack Brown.

Ross Jenkins racked up just 129 yards on 8-of-17 passing with an interception for the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1), who saw their two-game winning streak halted. Daniel Porter tallied 99 yards and a score on 11 touches.

The Bulldogs got on the board first, as Phillip Livas returned the opening kickoff 84 yards to the Nevada 15. Porter took care of the rest on the next play with a TD dash that made it 7-0 with less than a minute elapsed in the game.

Nevada responded with a pair of scores later in the frame -- a three-yard TD catch by Puloka and a five-yard run from Kaepernick -- to grab a 14-7 after the first.

Ricky Drake's 40-yard field goal in the second stanza made it 17-7 at the break.

Kaepernick hit Wimberly for a 24-yard strike early in the third but the extra point was no good. Louisiana Tech answered on the second play of its ensuing drive with Porter's 64-yard scoring run, which made it 23-14 about 10 minutes left in the third.

Kaepernick had a 67-yard TD dash late in the third to balloon the difference to 30-14 at the beginning of the final frame.

Following a blocked punt early in the fourth, Green hauled in a three-yard TD catch to make it 37-14.
