San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Ian Watts connected on a 43-yard field goal in the final minute of regulation to give the Wyoming Cowboys a thrilling, 30-27, come-from-behind victory over the San Diego State Aztecs in a Mountain West Conference tussle at Qualcomm Stadium.
Austyn Carta-Samuels threw for 246 yards and one touchdown for Wyoming (5-5, 3-3 MWC), and also rushed for 51 yards and another score. Brandon Stewart led the ground game for the Cowboys, rushing for 70 yards in the victory.
SDSU (4-6, 2-4) was paced by Brandon Sullivan in the loss, as the tailback rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Wyoming took a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Watts connected on a 27-yard field goal.
The Aztecs went ahead 7-3 late in the opening frame when Sullivan plunged into the end zone on a three-yard run.
Less than two minutes into the second stanza SDSU went up 10-3 when Lane Yoshida booted a 29-yard field goal.
Sullivan struck again late in the second quarter, this time the running back scored on a five-yard run.
Wyoming cut its deficit to 17-6 in the final seconds of the first half when Watts connected on a 27-yard field goal.
Minutes into the third quarter the Aztecs went back ahead by two touchdowns when Yoshida drilled a 40-yard field goal.
A one-yard touchdown run by Walter Kazee late in the third frame extended San Diego State's advantage to 27-6.
Seconds into the final quarter Carta-Samuels' 10-yard touchdown run for the Cowboys brought the score to 27-13.
The Cowboys continued to fight back as Alvester Alexander scampered into the end zone on a 33-yard run with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Wyoming's comeback march was completed with just over two minutes left in the final quarter, as the Cowboys tied the game at 27 apiece when Carta-Samuels hit David Tooley with a nine-yard touchdown pass.
A big defensive stop gave the Cowboys the ball back and the team took advantage of the opportunity, marching down field to set up the game winning field goal for Watts.
Wyoming, which totaled 446 yards in the contest, had an amazing fourth quarter, scoring 24 straight points to grab the win.
