USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - Asher Clark rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Air Force Flacons to a 45-17 victory over the UNLV Rebels in Mountain West Conference play at Falcon Stadium.
Tim Jefferson threw for just 126 yards for Air Force (7-4, 5-2 MWC), but also ran for 63 yards in the win. Jared Tew added 61 rushing yards and one touchdown on 13 carries for the Falcons.
As for the Rebels (4-7, 2-5), they were paced by Omar Clayton, but the quarterback only threw for 108 yards and one touchdown, while also tossing an interception in the loss. Mike Clausen rushed for 60 yards and one score for UNLV, while Clayton added 56 yards on 10 carries.
Air Force jumped out to a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Clark broke free for a 24-yard touchdown run.
Seconds into the second stanza the Falcons took a 14-0 lead when Tew scored on a three-yard run.
The Rebels finally found the scoreboard midway through the second quarter when Kyle Watson kicked a 37-yard field goal.
Air Force closed out the first half with a 34-yard field goal by Erik Soderberg, and a 10-yard touchdown run by Savier Stephens, and went into the break with a 24-3 advantage.
UNLV cut its deficit to 14 points when Clayton hit Phillip Payne with a 30- yard touchdown pass.
However, the Falcons responded with a two-yard touchdown run by Nathan Walker with just over four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Seconds into the final frame Clark scored on a two-yard plunge, extending Air Force's lead to 38-10.
The Rebels would not go away however, as Clausen scored on a six-yard run, cutting UNLV's deficit to 38-17.
The Falcons instantly responded however, as the team used just one play on its next possession, which was a 40-yard touchdown run by Clark.
Air Force dominated the Rebels on the ground, rushing for 431 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
